Whoa, things have been busy, with the S&M Ball and all. I won't try to fill you in on everything, but we did have an interesting class last Saturday. The title was "What is important to know about the Scene?" especially for new folks. The high lights that I can recall were:
--dont' be in a hurry. Take your time and be sure its what you want to do--it really won't go away before you get your chance (although they pointed out that everyone ignores this advice)
--don't let people push you into things. You don't have to do ~anything~ you don't want to.
--be aware that kinky people have an agenda--everyone there is looking for something, so there's always a certain amount of predation (and not just from Tops). Good folks control and contain it; some others don't.
--Consent is HUGE in the scene. Always ask before touching other folks' stuff (including their submissives)
--then some specific stuff about party etiquette, but we have a sheet that covers that sort of stuff--protect your reputation. With the privacy issues in the scene, its all you have.
